Welcome to the first post in my Mani Month series! For the next four weeks I'll be featuring different shades of Max Factor's Gel Shine Lacquers, creating different 'Modern Decade' looks from their selection of colours.

Max Factor is celebrating 100 Years of Glamour this year, can you believe it's been 100 years since Mr Max Factor himself launched his first ever product?! In celebration, Pat McGrath has grouped the new Gel Shine Lacquers into 'Modern Decades' with each colour representing a different time in the history of beauty...

First up is "Patent Poppy", a 50s pin-up red. This is a colour that we all associate with the 1950s, whether it be that bold matte red lip, the red dress or in this case, glossy red nails. Red nails will never go out of fashion, it's a timeless beauty look.

“For me, every woman must own a modern red polish, and Patent Poppy is perfect for a classic glamour look but with a modern twist- it's a vibrant true shade of red with a slight hint of orange that just pops" - Pat McGrath

I got an opaque finish on first application so I was blown away. I didn't even have to apply a second coat! The finish is gorgeous and glossy and I really like the long handle as it makes it easier to apply the polish.

Red isn't usually a colour I love on my nails but this bright shade of red is really nice for the summer. The slight orange undertones makes it less contrasting with my skin tone.

I hope you're looking forward to the next 3 Max Factor nail posts and the other nice colours that are still to come. If you want to get involved, feel free to recreate these pretty red nails and tweet me your photos using the #ManiMonday hashtag!
