Kendall Jenner’s Red Lip

IMG_0287

IMG_0287 IMG_0292 IMG_0300I'm all for the Estee Lauder and Kendall Jenner collaboration! I think it was a great move on Lauder's part and it's really given the brand the boost it needed to appeal to a slightly younger audience. First came the little black primer and now there's a limited edition red lipstick - I love it! A red lip is a staple, something we all love to try and knowing someone's perfect red lip is like finding out their best kept secret.

Kendall has created her perfect red by mixing Poppy and Orange Crush to make a slightly orange-tinted, bright red in a matte formula. The Estee Lauder matte formula is seriously matte, so although it may look a little heavy on the lips, at least you know it's not going anywhere!

I feel like this sort of shade is really flattering, especially on brunettes and as I said, it's a fun collaboration.

Kendall's "Restless" lipstick is available online only as an exclusive limited edition shade. What do you think?

THE PERMANENT BLOW DRY

When I mentioned on Twitter and Instagram that I was having a permanent/Brazilian blow dry, SO many of you asked for a review so today I'm going to talk through the process and results from my personal experience.

I've had this done a few times before but never before at Hershesons. As you guys know, my natural hair is very curly but it has relaxed a bit over time from straightening so now when it's natural it's just coarse, frizzy and very unmanageable. The 'before' photo above isn't natural but that's how it looks in the mooring even when it's straight. I have to straighten it every single morning and after washing it takes about 45 minutes to straighten. The idea of the permanent blow dry isn't necessarily to give you dead straight hair, but it helps to remove frizz, add in moisture and in general make your hair easier to manage. I tend to have this done in the Summer or before any holidays (quite a bit before, as you can't swim in chlorine for a while!). The permanent blow dry at Hershesons (which is actually semi-permanent) uses a natural keratin and glycolic acid to reduce frizz by re-building the keratin in the hair semi-permanently. The cost can vary but at Hershesons costs start at £250. Don't stop reading.... it's worth it I promise!

They start by shampooing the hair using a sulphate-free shampoo and no conditioner is used. The hair is then rough dried before the product is applied. It's applied with a brush just like when you get your hair coloured and they make sure to cover every inch of hair concentrating at the curly roots. The product is then left to soak into the hair for 10/15 minutes and I was given one of those strange drying machines that goes round your head. This is the bit that's not that comfortable... they then blow dry your hair straight. It feels like blow drying your hair with loads of shampoo and conditioner still left in your hair. It can also sting your eyes but I find if you just close your eyes then it's not too bad. I'm personally not fussed about the "chemicals" causing the stinging as it's something I don't do regularly and it's completely worth it. After they've blow dried your hair they then use straighteners to make sure the hair is completely dead straight. For some reason the hair doesn't feel like it has lots of product in it at all, in fact it feels soft, healthy and really nourished.

It's important to keep the hair dry and straight for the 3/4 days to follow. Tying it up or curling it might cause semi-permanent kinks in the hair and you should also use sulphate-free products to get the most out of the treatment and make it last for up to 3 months.

When I have this done it's something I can feel instant results with. I woke up the next morning and my hair was straight! It's 100 times easier to straighten after washing, it doesn't curl in the heat, my roots aren't as frizzy... it's a bit of a miracle really. I always let my hair dry naturally after washing and before straightening to avoid extra heat damage from the blow dry. As you can see in the photos above my hair was always super frizzy and coarse... it's like different hair now! For me, it's worth investing £250 on something that'll change my hair for the entire summer. If you want to watch me getting my hair done, watch this vlog and if you have any more questions about my experience, tweet me @lilypebbles I go to the Hershesons in Harvey Nichols and have Katherine for my cut and Jason for my colour/permanent blow dry.

I hope this helps!

CND Sticky Base Coat

IMG_9455

IMG_9455How much can you really say about a base coat? Base coats and top coats are a bit like mascara, you either love them or hate them and you know straight away.

I bought the CND Sticky Base Coat during a recent Cult Beauty haul and it's great! I've loved the Seche Vite top coat for years but never really found a base coat that I wanted to commit to. This one worked well to keep my polish chip free, it helped prevent staining when wearing a dark or bright colour and it was really nice to apply.

So I can firmly say that I now have a base coat I can recommend!

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION REVIEW

Last week I was introduced to Charlotte Tilbury's beautiful Christmas collection as well as a couple of new products that are launching towards the end of the year. To say that Charlotte Tilbury is enthusiastic about her line would be an under statement. She is the most passionate person I have ever met and hearing her talk about a foundation that she's spent 5 years developing? Well I really did think at one point she was going to explode with excitement.

So let's talk about this magic foundation first seeing as it has been in the making for so long. Apparently it just kept getting sent back to the labs until it was right and Charlotte only now feels ready to release it to the world. She wanted something full coverage that would cover acne, scarring, redness and discolouration as well as smooth out wrinkles and wake up tired looking skin. With the new foundation Charlotte has also released a new brush, the Magic Complexion Brush. To launch the new foundation they created a series of before and after photos on a range of different skin types, so I thought I'd do one of my own so you can see the difference the foundation makes.

It definitely works to cover up any redness or blemishes but for me I found it a little too heavy. I'm not one for full coverage so I'm kind of the wrong target audience and I think my heart will always belong to her Light Wonder foundation instead. It applied nicely and blended in quickly but it gave me that block foundation look rather than really meshing into my skin. Unfortunately despite being really excited to try it I was disappointed in the brush. It shed a lot when I used it. So that was a shame.

I love Charlotte Tilbury products though and I think this foundation would be really good if you do like that extra coverage and you have scarring or acne to cover. It's semi-matte so will last well and won't need powdering. Charlotte is also releasing the Mini Miracle Eye Wand which I think I'm going to really like. I didn't get the right shade to test properly but from what I tried on the day it seemed really lovely. An eye cream on one end infused with hyaluronic acid and an illuminating light reflector on the other (that actually gives really decent coverage). This is the first time anyone has paired an eye cream with a reflector in one product and I think it's great. I can't wait to try my shade!

So that's what's new from Charlotte Tilbury and you know you're always going to get great quality with her products because she really pours her heart and soul into each and every one. So which of these do you think you'll be trying?

Mini Miracle Eye Wand - £29 - 5 Shades - October 2015.

Magic Foundation - £29.50 - 15 Shades - September 2015

Magic Complexion Brush - £45 - September 2015

BOHO WAVES FOR SHORT HAIR

IMG_9457

IMG_0443IMG_9457IMG_0449 IMG_0453Summer is in full swing and it seems that everyone is after that "festival" look, whether it's through style, makeup or hair. It's the relaxed and laid back look thats so perfect and imperfect at the same time.

wish I could do milkmaid braids or a halo braid but for those of us with slightly less styling skills the Relaxed Boho is the perfect look. KMS California and their ambassador Sam Burnett have looked at this season's biggest hair trends and edited them into three key wearable looks.

The Relaxed Boho is carefree, simple and it's the 70s at it's best. Here's how to achieve it:

1. Prepare the hair by using HAIRPLAY Sea Salt Spray all over the hair 2. Create various sections throughout the whole head to create natural twists 3. Blow-dry the hair, loosing the twists as you go 4. Create a few braids throughout the hair and apply HAIRPLAY Dry Wax for texture 5. Finish the look with HAIRPLAY Anti-Humidity Seal

I loved using the products especially the Dry Wax and the Anti-Humidity Spray. These both gave amazing texture and hold, especially if you have unruly hair. You can add more braids depending on the length of your hair or if it's really short you can just leave it with loose waves. Play around with your hair length and texture until you find something that works but the more undone the better, this look should be relaxed and easy.

To celebrate the summer festival season, KMS California have teamed up with Bora Aksu and are offering a beautiful gold clasped wrist cuff as a gift with purchase on two or more KMS California products. To learn how to create this look and others from KMS ambassador Sam Burnett click here.

What's your go-to festival hair style?

I never thought the day would come where I'd make a video about the colour blue. Random.

I recently went on a bit of a Topshop haul and everything I picked up seemed to be blue or white! So I thought I'd talk through some of my favourite blue pieces in a video. I'm talking style, nails and makeup so I hope you like it and it inspires you to wear more blue this Summer!

Enjoy.

I'm baaaaaack!

After a week in LA I'm home and already missing the weather, the people, the food and the palm trees. I've been to LA a couple of times as a child and once in my gap year (although we had no car and no idea where to go!). This time round we had lots to do, loads of meetings and a huge list of restaurants to visit thanks to my foodie Uncle.

The Food: I still can't get over the pork belly vietnamese sandwich I had at Mendocino Farmsoh my days. It was a great place for lunch with all different kinds of interesting sandwiches and even if you're not a sandwich person like me, you'll love it. Unami Burger on day one was also a highlight. We don't really have anything like that at home that's a Japanese fusion burger restaurant. I had a beef burger with Japanese pickles and cabbage and Anna had an amazing tuna steak burger. Again, I would highly recommend it and I'd go back. One of our meetings took place at Joan's on Third (after Anna misdirected us to Jones - which I think was a strip joint) and again, it was a great lunch/coffee spot. We sat outside and it felt like the place to be. Unfortunately we didn't have time to go to Sugarfish for sushi but we did have an amazing meal at The Tasting Kitchen in Abbot Kinny. We went for the tasting menu which is basically the chefs choice of either 5 or 7 courses and each table gets a completely different selection of  dishes. It was really interesting and a great atmosphere inside the restaurant.

The People: I was lucky enough to meet some amazing people whilst in LA, so where do I start? My friend Adele was kind enough to show us around LA and she really does know all the cool spots. Check out her Instagram for beautiful floral arrangements and a peek inside the LA life. We also had the pleasure of meeting Lana who is genuinely one of the sweetest girls I've met. She uploads beauty videos in both English and Spanish so head over to her YouTube channels to have a watch! I was really nervous for my panel as I didn't know anyone else on it but it turned out to be really interesting and I discovered some great YouTube channels with really interesting back stories. I was sat next to Daym Drops who sits in his car and reviews fast food for his channel. He was a complete showman with the biggest personality and the most hilarious one-liners! I am now obsessed with his channel and the song that launched his success. What a nice guy!

The Beauty: As you may have already seen I did quite a bit of shopping in Sephora and Target. We only had one day of shopping and a lot of the things I wanted were sold out so it wasn't the most successful of shopping trips but I got some things I'm very excited about. The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in brown seems like the perfect daily liner for brunettes and I finally got my hands on the Lorac Pro Palette! Whilst jumping up and down from excitement in Ulta I also picked up the Lorac Unzipped palette which is a lighter, shimmery palette that I can't wait to try. I also picked up the Tarte Brightening Eyeliner which is a nude liner used in the waterline to brighten up the eyes. I bought so many other bits and pieces that I'm sure will pop up here and in future videos!

Part two of the vlog will be up tonight at 6.30pm GMT and it's my favourite of the two!

Thank you so much for all your nice comments on part 1 of my vlog, I'm so glad you all enjoyed it. I'm now back from LA and it all feels a bit like a dream.

Here's part 2 with a bit more LA exploring before heading to the Vidcon madness. I have a couple more LA videos to come so look out for those but for now, enjoy part 2 of the vlog!

KAT VON D BROWN TATTOO LINER

Screen Shot 2015-07-29 at 21.15.24

IMG_9603Screen Shot 2015-07-29 at 21.15.24It's easy to go a bit crazy when shopping for beauty in America so I try to stick to a few rules. One of which is, try to only stick to things that are either new or not available in the UK. I always like to visit the Kat Von D counter when I'm in Sephora as we can't get it at home and I've loved everything I've tried of hers so far. The original tattoo liner is one of my favourites down to it's opacity and easy application so when I saw a new shade (well, I THINK it's new) I put it straight in my basket. As well as the original black, the tattoo liner now comes in "Mad Max Brown" which is a rich, chocolate brown.

I wear liquid liner a lot, but I find that sometimes a jet black can look too dressy for the daytime and so I was hoping the brown would be more day appropriate. It did exactly what I'd hoped for and was actually a bit darker than I imagined. It looks almost black when it's on but because it's brown it just takes the edge off, a bit like a brown mascara would.

For me it's still a stand out product and is up there with my favourite Tom Ford liquid eyeliner. I'm glad I picked up the brown and will wear this one during the day from now and save the black for when I want a more intense eye look.

Have you ever tried a brown liquid liner?

Screen Shot 2015-07-31 at 10.56.08I really can't believe it's the first of August today, how is this Summer flying by so quickly?! I feel like I blinked in May and then suddenly it became August.

The past month has been a bit crazy for me, both in my personal and work life, but crazy in an amazing way (most of the time!). I'm so glad I went to Vidicon this year, it was such a good decision and I have such good memories from that trip. If you haven't yet read my LA post, I wrote down most of the places we visited and there are some really good recommendations in there that I collected from all different people before I went.

I'm spending this weekend in Suffolk with Rich's family, camera-free and hopefully relaxing! I feel like I haven't got that much to share in this week's post but wanted to check in anyway and say hey.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you're doing and I'll see you in tomorrow's video.
