It's that time of the month again... it's favourites time! In this video I'm talking through some of the beauty and style pieces I've been loving throughout November.

I can't believe there's only one more favourites video to go this year! I hope you enjoy this one and find some good recommendations. Enjoy!

CIATÉ CANDY CANE HOUSE

Every year Ciaté bring out the best Christmas sets! Their nail polish advent calendar is obviously a favourite but their little houses are also very cute.

This year they've released the Candy Cane House which includes four Christmassy glitter topcoats. 'Tangled Tinsel' is a gold and red mix, 'Ginger Snap' is multi-coloured glitter, 'Snow Fall' is a white frosting and 'Candy Cane' is a red, white and green mix. I actually like them all and for a nail polish lover like me, this would make the sweetest gift! You can either layer the glitters up for an opaque finish or lightly sprinkle them over another nail polish colour.

The house opens up from the front with a magnetic clasp to display the four polishes inside. The set usually costs £25 but it's now on SALE on ASOS for only £18.50

So what do you think of the candy cane house?

TRY A BIT OF LUXURY SKINCARE

Starter skincare sets are a great way to try a new brand, especially if it's a pricey one. This travel set from Omorovicza is so perfect, I'm in love. First of all let's talk about the bag itself - hello Anya Hindmarsh dupe! It's a waterproof, wipeable, two-sided cosmetics bag in a gorgeous bright blue. One side is really large and can fit a lot of products in and the other is smaller and meant for muslin cloths. I know this bag will come in so handy and I can't wait to re-use it!

Inside the bag you get four mini products and one cloth. I've tried three out of the four products before and loved them. The Queen of Hungary mist is a beautiful toner and the Illuminating Moisturiser has been one of my favourites since trying it. It also comes with the Thermal Cleansing Balm which heats up on the face and feels incredible as well as the Rejuvenating Night cream which I've yet to try!

Products like the Thermal Cleansing Balm will last a really long time as you only need to use a tiny amount so these products can be used to either try products for the first time or to use as travel minis.

The whole set is £75 but is without a doubt worth much more than that! If it's within your Christmas budget I think it'll make a gorgeous gift for a skincare lover. If you've always wanted to try the brand, I think this is a great way to do so.

HOW TO CHEAT YOUR LIP SHAPE

$

I've never really minded the shape of my lips, although a lack of cupids bow (thanks Dad) makes applying a bold lip a little tricky. It is possible to cheat your own lip shape though and this is particularly handy for those with thinner lips...

Using a lip liner that's the same tone as your lips is an easy way to cheat your way to fuller looking lips. My favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat which now comes in multiple shades, but most brands that do lip liners will have a skin toned one in their collection. The Rimmel lip liners are also great.

I like to start by simply filling in my lips but things get a bit more defined when it comes to lining the outer part of the lips. I start by pushing the liner right to the edge, you know where you can feel it gets hard around your lips? Well you don't want to over line too much but really push it as far to the edge as you can. I also like to draw in my cupids bow a bit, making the high points slightly more pointed.

You can leave it there or what I like to do is layer a lipgloss on top! It's great for no lipstick days or when you've gone heavy with the eyeshadow, so what do you think? Are you going to try cheating your lip shape?

COSY COTTAGE PHOTO DIARY

As you would have seen in Monday's vlog, Anna and I spent the weekend in Northumberland with our other halves. Barbour organised the most amazing weekend for us and there wasn't one minute throughout the whole weekend that we weren't smiling ear to ear with happiness.

As I usually like to do when I get up to fun things, I took some photos to create a little photo diary both on here and inside my personal scrapbook. We went to some lovely restaurants and stayed in a gorgeous cottage, which I have linked to below this post.

Hopefully you like these more relaxed photo diary posts, I just really enjoy sharing the photos that I love to take!

TAKE A PEEK INSIDE THE HOUSE OF JO MALONE LONDON

Every year Jo Malone London creates an even more gorgeous Christmas collection than the year before. This year the theme is 'A Frosted Fantasy' and we visited the head office back in July to learn more about the collection (which is where this amazing photo was taken!). They have over 40 different gift sets and Christmas gifts to choose from and it's really an incredible collection.

One of my favourites has to be the House of Jo Malone London, which is a huge box with the perfect illustration of the Jo Malone townhouse where there head office is and where they host all their events. It's so London and so chic. When you pull the tab to open the two doors six of their most loved scents sit inside. There's a Red Roses bath oil, Blackberry & Bay 30ml fragrance, Orange Blossom Body Creme, Lime Basil & Mandarin body and hand wash, English Pear & Freesia candle and a Pomegranate Noir body and hand lotion.

The price of this set is £125, so if that's in your Christmas price range I think it's a beautiful gift to receive. My grandma has a new bathroom and I just know she'd LOVE to use all these products and have them on display.

It's a lovely way to enter into the world of Jo Malone...

THE WEEKEND MAKEUP LINE UP

Last weekend I had to keep things travel friendly, neutral and reliable on the makeup front. In a last minute rush to pack for the weekend I threw in some of my most loved makeup bits that I knew would get me by and would be easy to whack on.

The Charlotte Tilbury foundation is lightweight and very natural looking on the skin. The packaging is perfect for travelling and can be applied without a brush which is very handy...(literally). My NARS concealer comes everywhere with me and I have multiple backups. It's that good. A while ago I spotted this NARS duo in Space NK and it's seriously the ultimate duo. Laguna bronzer on one side, Deep Throat blush on the other - my two faves. Two products in one palette and the whole thing is the same size as the full size Laguna bronzer! I find these two shades so easy to wear as neither are too strong so they're perfect for a weekend look.

When deciding on which eye products to take I settled on a palette I keep going back to, the YSL Couture Palette in 02 'Fauves'. I love all 5 shades inside but in particular the top left and bottom right shades are my favourite combo for the weekends. I also took my Charlotte Tilbury 'Elizabeth Violet' eyeliner because I love the subtle purple showing through the lashes. Talking of lashes, I'm not that fussy with mascara at the moment but I'm still using Tarte's Gifted which works wonders on my lashes.

On the weekend I like my makeup to be simple and although it looks like there are a lot of products here, as you would have seen in Tuesday's post the final makeup look was very natural. Simple, easy weekend makeup.

WEAR //
I have been loving this coat from ASOS this week! It's oversized and grey, what more could a girl want eh? I really like the ombre effect and although I was worried about the boiled wool feeling too stiff, it's actually really cosy. Such simple, elegant style and I just know I'm going to love wearing it this winter.

LIFE //
Every year Innocent Smoothies host The Big Knit, asking people to knit mini wooly hats to place on top of their smoothies. For every smoothie they sell that has a little wooly hat on, they donate to Age UK "making winter warmer for old people". It's such a cute idea and really fun if you're into knitting! You can send your hats in until 12th December and all the info you need is here. So get knitting! You can see me knitting my hat in tonight's Vlogmas vlog.

EATS //
Pasta has always been my favourite food since I was a child, but recently I've been getting terrible cramps after eating a big pasta meal. It's probably been about a year but I've ignored it because I love nothing more than a huge bowl of pasta. I recently thought I'd try spelt pasta to see if it makes a difference and it was a life changer for me. I didn't feel bloated at all and the cramps were no more! I'm fully converted and haven't had white pasta for months. I'd recommend trying it if white pasta doesn't sit well with you.

Have a great weekend!

VICTORIA BECKHAM DOES BEAUTY

For her first real dip in the beauty pond, Victoria Beckham has launched a limited edition nail polish duo with British brand Nails Inc. It's a perfect fit and together they've created Judo Red and Bamboo White, a subtle incorporation of the Japanese elements in her Spring Summer 2015 collection.

Both polishes use the Stretch-To-Fit formulation and Bamboo extract with silica. The new Nails Inc bottle design is already gorgeous with a concave square look and heavy detachable lid, but for this collection they've taken an extra step and made a matte black and white finish with clear sides to peek in at the polish inside.

The formulation feels great on the nails, one coat was almost opaque and two coats gave a gorgeous glossy, smooth finish. The stretch-to-fit technology gives it an almost elastic texture, making it easier to apply and the bamboo extract helps the nails to regain natural shine, reduces ridges and apparently helps with nail growth!

Judo Red is an elegant summer orange. I love orange on nails and this one is already a firm favourite. Bamboo White is a really interesting choice for a duo so I'm assuming it's a shade Victoria likes to wear on her nails. It's a creamy white that's far from the tipex nail look and more like a soft nude that goes with any outfit. I actually really like it!

The Victoria Beckham duo is something very special for Nails Inc and so every duo purchased will come in the branded white box and matching bag. The duo is £25 and is available online from tomorrow 8th December and available globally from February.

It's been a whole week since my last beauty video, which is a long time for me! I hope you're all enjoying Vlogmas and if you're struggling to keep up with daily vlogs, check back tomorrow because I'll be doing a roundup post of the videos so far.

In this Sunday beauty video I'm talking through 15 of my favourite products that are all under £15. This time of year always makes me want to shop but with presents to buy there's not much money left for yourself. These products are high quality but way more affordable than the high end bits.

I hope you find some good recommendations. Enjoy!

Vlogmas Week One Roundup

So I've now come to the end of week one of my first ever Vlogmas and man has it been a journey! Vlogging every single day is a very strange experience and I've found it comes with both challenges and rewards. Your comments have kept me powering through and it's been so nice to have fresh new comments to check every evening. At times I've felt quite exhausted and just can't be bothered to talk to a camera (if I'm honest) but at the end of every day I've been proud to produce a video to upload and share.

I hope you've liked week one so far, meeting Jamie Oliver was a huge highlight and of course celebrating an early birthday with my lovely friends. Here's a little roundup of my first six vlogs in case you missed any!

Let me know what you think so far and I'll see you tonight at 6.30pm for Vlogmas Day 7!

Jojo's Dairy-Free Chocolate Brookies

At my nephew's 5th birthday whilst everyone else was watching him open presents, chatting with a glass of prosecco, generally doing what you do at a party... I was in the kitchen scoffing my face on these babies. My sister makes them quite frequently these days and she calls them Brownie Cookies, but I've renamed them Brookies and they are divine. Slightly hard on the outside like a cookie but spongie and gooey on the inside like a brownie. They are also light, dairy-free and not at all sickly. They're just incredible... trust me!

This recipe makes 72 Brookies (apparently!), my sister said she made a few trays worth but they didn't last long and were eaten pretty swiftly!

Here's what you'll need:

85g good quality cocoa powder
400g caster sugar
125ml vegetable oil
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
250g plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
60g icing sugar

Prep: 20 min
Cook: 12 min

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the cocoa, caster sugar and vegetable oil. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the cocoa mixture. Cover dough, and chill for at least 4 hours (although Jojo didn't and it still turned out amazing!)
  2. Preheat oven to 180 c/ gas mark 4. Line baking trays with parchment. Pour icing sugar onto a plate and using a metal tablespoon, spoon and roll mixture into 2.5cm balls coating each one with the icing sugar before placing onto prepared trays (Jojo found it easiest to roll them on the plate of icing sugar).
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Let them stand on the baking tray for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool.

If you try these out yourself don't forget to tweet me a photo @lilypebbles with the hashtag #LPbrookies

Get ready for some serious chocolate gorgeousness!

Gold & Pink

A combo that I always seem to go back to is gold eyes and pink lips.  I'm usually more of a red or berry lip gal but it's something about a gold lid that pairs so well with pink.

You can use any gold shadow and any pink lipstick you like but my favourite is MAC Woodwinked and MAC Lustering as they always go so perfectly together. A shade like Woodwinked requires minimal effort, I simply used it alone both on the lids and under the eye and blending out the edges. Lustering is a really easy to wear pink as it's moisturising and feels almost like a lip butter when it's on the lips. It's a shade that doesn't get talked about much but is definitely in my top MAC picks.

At this time of year all I want to do is wear gold eyeshadow, so it's nice to have a lipstick I know I can just grab and go.

Rich's Men's Shopping Tips

Today's style post is slightly different as I've roped in the boyfriend to give his top tips for men's style shopping. When I first met Rich he wasn't that interested in what he wore and bought most his clothes from River Island and Topman. In the past couple of years I think he's got more into finding high quality clothes that fit well and although he likes to have someone with him for their opinion, he knows what suits him and how he likes clothes to fit.

So Rich gave me all his top tips, where he likes to shop and why. Here we go...

For t-shirts //
He wears t-shirts almost every day, whether it's under a smart sweater or casually with jeans. For basic under £10 tees he goes to GAP for a quick fix. For something a bit more 'special' he'll go to All Saints. The All Saints t-shirts are quite a bit more pricey at about £30-40 but the quality and fit is really nice. They do sales quite regularly so he usually picks up a few when there's a deal. His recent discovery (following my obsession) is COS which is disguised as an expensive store but is actually more affordable than it's competitors. Some of their t-shirts are only £12 and they have a lovely feel and fit.

For jeans //
For a guy, if you don't have skinny legs and a small bum it's pretty hard to find decent jeans without having to spend hundreds on pounds. What Rich looks for in his jeans is for them to be wider around his thighs but tapered towards the ankles. After months of searching he's found that Lee and Nudie Jeans are his best bet! They both do slim fit without being too skinny and the high quality means they last well throughout the seasons. Uniqlo jeans are cheaper in price and also have a slight stretch to them making them very comfortable!

For jumpers & shirts //
There's only one answer for this one... Uniqlo. They do such simple designs and although it doesn't really do it for me, it's perfect for Rich. They have a huge range of plain sweaters that he wears most days for work. They also do cottons shirts in slim fit, which is something he always looks for. The materials are really nice and breathable and the prices are very reasonable.

For shoes //
Rich has never been that committed to any shoe shop but recently he's favoured Dune and Clarks over any others. His priorities (like mine) are comfort and quality and he doesn't tend to ever spend over £70/80 on shoes. He recently bought some great brown winter boots from Clarks for £70 and some brogues from Dune that go with anything!

For suits //
As much as he'd love to buy a designer suit (and one day he will!) the Marks & Spencer Autograph range always saves the day a week before a wedding or job interview. Their suits are good value and for the amount of time he needs to wear one, it's perfect.

For smart wear & coats //
Rich has had his Superdry coat for years and he also has a waterproof from Pull & Bear but last year he invested in a smarter coat from Reiss and it's probably his favourite thing in his wardrobe. It fits perfectly and smartens up any outfit! It was pricier than he'd usually spend at about £200 (we didn't eat out that month) but it has lasted so well and he still loves it and wears it all the time.

So who would have thought eh? Rich is just full of fashion tips! Hopefully your man/brother/mate will find this post helpful. Let me know if they did!

HOSTING A BIRTHDAY BASH AT HOME

$

0

If you've been watching my vlogs then you might have already seen last weekend's little birthday bash. The idea was to have a really cosy winter evening where my friends could relax, chat, eat and be merry. But even organising a relaxed party requires a lot of planning and here's what I learnt from organising one myself...

Give your guests a theme //
For mine I asked everyone to bring a dish each so that we had a range of different foods (and it's cheaper than eating out!). When you're asking your guests to bring food the last thing you want is for them to feel awkward about what to bring. How much should they make? Should it be hot or cold? Starter, main, dessert? I found that setting a loose theme was helpful and I chose Mediterranean. A theme where food can be served cold is easy and means that guests can bring their dish and not worry about keeping it hot or heating it up. Big salads help bulk out a meal and are relatively easy for people to make. Try and work out beforehand how many salads/mains/desserts you'll need, ask your guests what they feel comfortable making and then assign a type of dish to each guest or couple.

Set the mood //
I really wanted my guests to feel comfortable and not want to go home at 10pm. Noone likes to sit in uncomfortable clothes on a stiff chair for hours on end, so I decided to scrap the table and chairs and have a relaxed lounge mood instead. Shoes off, cushions on the floor, buffet style food and music of course! It's so important to have music playing, not too loudly but definitely on. I made a playlist of easy listening, current music that wasn't too noticeable but filled any silences between chats. As soon as the playlist ended the room had a different vibe and felt like it was the end of the night... music came back on and conversations started again.

Let your guests feel at home //
It's nice to offer people drinks when they come in but let your guests know that they can make themselves at home. If they want to get a drink they can, tell them where the nearest toilet is, tell them they can take their shoes off if they like. The less they have to ask you permission for the more they'll feel at home and comfortable.

Fill the gaps //
Depending on your guests and how well they know each other, having a few games on hand can be nice if things start to slow down and conversations run out. Team games like Articulate always go down well and the app Heads Up is so much fun and hilarious!

Go for plastic //
If you're not throwing a posh dinner party then opt for plastic cutlery, plates and cups. You can get some really nice clear looking ones and it means way less washing up at the end of the night!

So if you're planning your own relaxed party I hope these tips will come in handy! You can watch the vlog here for more details.

WEAR //
It's that time of year again when I get to whip out my Primark Super Cosy tights. These seem to be a love/hate thing with people I know but I can't live without them in the Winter. They're insanely thick and lined, they're perfect for winter walks. When jeans and leggings are too cold these tights always keep my legs warm and protect them from the wind. Did I mention that they're only £3!!?

LIFE //
This week I sat front row on the opening night of The Nutcracker ballet, talk about lucky girl?! It was such an amazing experience and I loved everything about it. The music from The Nutcracker is incredible and I would highly recommend going to see it if there are still tickets available!

EATS //
The night before my birthday Rich and I went out for dinner to a Vietnamese restaurant in Soho. I love trying places I haven't tired before and Vietnamese is a cuisine I LOVE! Cây Tre has a really nice atmosphere and the food feels really authentic. I'd 100% go back as I had a really great meal. You can see a snippet of our dinner in this vlog

SUMMIT OF STYLE

During this time of the year I am like a magpie when it comes to nail polish. I can't stay away from the glitter!! This particular polish by Essie has been pleasing me greatly during the past few weeks.

It's a chunky bronze glitter that I think looks beautiful when lightly layered over a dark polish like Essie 'Sole Mate'. It catches the light and I've probably had more compliments whilst wearing this than any other polish before.

I'd go as far as saying this is the best Christmas accessory this year. I love it!

I seemed to have developed an addiction to coats and it's come out of nowhere. Maybe it's like the whole scarf/accessory thing... they always fit, they're always comfy and they're so easy to wear!

I thought for today's video I'd compile some of my current favourites into a quick little video for you. I really hope you like it and for a behind the scenes look at how I made it, check this vlog

HOW TO TAKE THE PERFECT INSTAGRAM PHOTO

$
0
0

Ok, catchy blog post title aside let's all agree that you can take your Instagram photos however you like. Whether it's a cheesy grinned photo of you and your best friend, a bird's eye view of what's on your plate or the perfect sunset... it's your Instagram so do with it what you like.

But for the purpose of today's post I thought I'd share with you how I personally like to take my Instagram photos and the tips and tricks I like to use...

Get into position //
I don't often have to 'crop' as I like to spend time on the photo composition beforehand. I hold my phone in the right position so that I get the correctly framed photo that I'm hoping for. I personally love the bird's eye effect but not with every photo, it's also nice to mix it up. I try to make sure I don't create unwanted shadows or have any dark corners. If you're shooting outside be aware of where the sun is, if it's behind the subject it'll make it darker and if it's in front it'll make it brighter. I also feel very passionate about keeping the photo square... it's square for a reason.

Background attention //
Depending on the subject of the photo I like to either have a plain white background or a really full, packed background. Setting the scene can really make an average photo look much more exciting. For example instead of just a plate of food, adding in cutlery, a glass and a pattered napkin will really add to the photo.

Edit, edit, edit //
Instagram have recently updated their app and it's now really easy to edit without having to use other photo editing apps. I like to leave the filter on 'normal' and then click on the spanner to edit the photo manually. I usually make the photo brighter, lower the contrast slightly, turn up the warmth and sharpen ever so slightly. The combination of all those things usually do the trick for me or sometimes I'll use the VSCO Cam app and use the filter M5 on about +9.

So those are a few of my tips but the beauty of Instagram is being able to capture moments in photos. A great photo will always be great no matter the editing or cropping. Look out for those moments that will translate well in photo. Let me know if you found these helpful and if you have any of your own tips please feel free to comment below!
